Color & Finish

Custom Automotive Paint

Custom paint is more than choosing a color. The finished result
depends on preparation, material selection, panel alignment,
application and how the color works with the vehicle’s body lines.

Custom paint services may include:

  • Custom exterior colors
  • Factory-color refinishing
  • Two-tone paint schemes
  • Accent colors and contrasting components
  • Racing stripes and painted graphics
  • Custom liveries
  • Matte, satin and gloss finishes
  • Painted trim and exterior details
  • Engine-bay and underhood components
  • Interior trim and dash components

Every project is quoted according to the vehicle, existing finish,
repair requirements, selected color and desired level of completion.

Professional Materials

AkzoNobel, BASF and PPG Paint Systems

SSV Texas maintains a full in-house AkzoNobel mixing bank, allowing
us to formulate and mix paint for projects directly in our facility.

We also spray BASF and PPG paint systems when required by the
project, manufacturer specification, existing finish or customer
requirement.

Our paint-system capabilities include:

  • In-house color mixing
  • Factory color-code formulation
  • Custom color development
  • Spray-out and color verification
  • Metallic and pearl finishes
  • Compatible primers, sealers, basecoats and clearcoats
  • Paint-system selection based on project requirements
Color codes provide a starting formula, but vehicle age, previous
repairs, material variation and environmental exposure can affect
the existing finish. Final color decisions may require spray-out
testing and visual verification.

Complete Transformation

Full Vehicle Color Changes

A properly executed color change requires more than painting the
visible exterior panels. The appropriate level of disassembly and
coverage depends on the vehicle and the desired finished result.

A complete color-change project may include:

  • Removal of bumpers, lamps, trim and exterior hardware
  • Removal or loosening of body seals and moldings
  • Door, hood and liftgate jamb refinishing
  • Underhood and engine-bay refinishing when selected
  • Roof, hardtop and removable-panel refinishing
  • Grille, mirror-cap and trim refinishing
  • Dash or interior accent refinishing
  • Body-component installation and alignment
  • Final reassembly and finish inspection

Before quoting the project, we establish which areas will be
refinished and which original-color areas, if any, will remain.
This keeps the scope and expected result clear.

Fitment & Integration

Body Kit and Aero Installation

Aftermarket body and aerodynamic components frequently require
preparation and adjustment before they are ready for paint.
Installation should be test-fitted and verified before final
refinishing.

Body and aero services may include:

  • Front and rear fascia installation
  • Splitters and front air dams
  • Side skirts and rocker extensions
  • Rear diffusers and valances
  • Spoilers and rear wings
  • Hoods and hood vents
  • Fenders and quarter-panel components
  • Widebody and over-fender components
  • Grilles, scoops and exterior trim
  • Truck flares and exterior body components

Components are reviewed for construction, completeness and intended
fitment before the final installation scope is established.

Aftermarket fiberglass, urethane, carbon-fiber and composite
components may require additional fitting, blocking, repair,
reinforcement or surface preparation. These requirements cannot
always be determined until the component is test-fitted.

Before Paint

Test-Fitting and Panel Alignment

Whenever practical, body and aero components are test-fitted before
final paint. This allows mounting points, panel gaps, clearances and
adjacent components to be evaluated before the finish is applied.

The process may include:

  • Initial component inspection
  • Trial installation
  • Mounting-point verification
  • Panel-gap and body-line review
  • Clearance checks
  • Adjustment or correction of compatible components
  • Removal for preparation and paint
  • Final installation after refinishing

Test-fitting reduces avoidable damage and provides a more accurate
picture of the labor required to complete the installation.

Individual Components

Component and Accent Refinishing

Not every project requires a complete repaint. Individual exterior
and interior components can be refinished to create a more cohesive
appearance.

Common refinishing projects include:

  • Hoods and hood inserts
  • Grilles and grille surrounds
  • Mirror caps
  • Roof and hardtop panels
  • Bumpers and valances
  • Spoilers and splitters
  • Fender flares
  • Exterior trim
  • Dash panels and interior accents
  • Chassis and suspension components

The preparation and paint system are selected according to the
component’s substrate, existing finish and intended use.

Design & Identity

Graphics and Livery

SSV Texas can coordinate painted graphics, applied graphics and
complete vehicle liveries as part of a larger exterior project.

Livery projects may include:

  • Brand and sponsor graphics
  • Racing-inspired designs
  • Heritage color schemes
  • Stripes and accent graphics
  • Paint-and-vinyl combinations
  • Commercial or promotional vehicle branding
  • Placement planning around body lines and components

Design, production and installation requirements are established
before the vehicle is scheduled.

One Coordinated Project

Complete Exterior Builds

A complete exterior build is planned so the paint, body components,
stance, wheels and final details work together.

SSV Texas can coordinate:

  • Project design and component selection
  • Vehicle teardown and documentation
  • Body and aero test-fitting
  • Surface preparation and refinishing
  • Custom paint and graphics
  • Suspension and wheel fitment
  • Lighting and exterior accessories
  • Interior color and material coordination
  • Final assembly and inspection

Larger builds are divided into defined stages with the scope,
component requirements and payment schedule established before work
begins.

Customer-Supplied Components

Customer-supplied body and aero components are accepted following
inspection and fitment review.

SSV Texas does not warranty customer-supplied parts, manufacturing
defects, material defects, incorrect fitment, missing hardware or
failures caused by those components.

Booking and Deposits

Most projects require a 50% deposit to reserve
production time and order materials or components.

Payment schedules for larger or multi-stage projects are
determined by scope.

Central Texas Service Area

SSV Texas serves customers throughout Central Texas, from Waco to
San Marcos.

Paint and body projects require an in-person vehicle and component
evaluation before final scheduling.

Common Questions

Body, Paint and Aero Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a complete color change cost?

Complete color changes are quoted individually. Pricing depends
on vehicle size, condition, required bodywork, selected finish,
level of disassembly and whether jambs, underhood areas, roof
panels, trim or interior components are included.

Which paint systems do you use?

SSV Texas maintains a full in-house AkzoNobel mixing bank. We also
spray BASF and PPG systems when required by the project,
manufacturer specification or existing finish.

Can you install and paint a customer-supplied body kit?

Yes, following inspection and fitment review. Aftermarket
components may require fitting, repair, blocking, reinforcement
or additional preparation. Customer-supplied components are not
warrantied by SSV Texas.

Do you test-fit parts before painting them?

Whenever practical, body and aero components are test-fitted
before final refinishing. This allows mounting points, clearances,
body lines and panel gaps to be evaluated before paint is applied.

Can you match my vehicle’s existing paint?

We can formulate paint using the factory color code and evaluate
the existing finish. Vehicle age, prior repairs and environmental
exposure can create variation, so spray-out testing or blending
may be required for the best result.

Do you paint individual components?

Yes. Individual-component projects may include hoods, spoilers,
grilles, mirror caps, bumpers, flares, roof panels, exterior trim,
dash panels and other compatible components.

How long will my paint project take?

Timing depends on the scope, required repairs, component fitment,
material availability and finish process. A schedule is developed
after the vehicle and components have been evaluated. Final paint
work can also reveal correction needs that were not visible before
disassembly or preparation.
